Help After a Disaster
- Notify your insurance provider promptly about any damages
- Capture images and videos of the damage. Refrain from discarding any items until instructed by your insurance adjuster
- Perform immediate temporary repairs to mitigate further damage. Eliminate standing water and seal broken windows and openings to prevent rain ingress
- Maintain a detailed record of repairs and retain all receipts. Avoid initiating permanent repairs until the insurance adjuster has assessed the damage
Filing a Claim
- Maintain a log of all interactions with your company
- Prepare to provide thorough details regarding the damage
- Inquire about the possibility of an advance payment if immediate assistance is required
- Discuss coverage for living expenses; many policies include provisions for expenses incurred due to temporary displacement from your home. Keep receipts for such expenses
